Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you offer your Built-on-Your-Lot program?

BeaconCrest Homes will currently build on your lot in the following locations: Arlington, Alexandria, McLean, Falls Church, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac, and the District of Columbia. BeaconCrest Homes’ sister company Craftmark Homes will build on your lot in additional metropolitan locations—visit for more information.

What is included with my new home?

Your new home built by BeaconCrest Homes will include many of the features and amenities expected by today’s discerning buyer such as professional grade kitchen appliances, hardwood throughout the main level, upper hall, and owner’s suite, and a spa-like owner’s bath. Please see our Features above for more details. In addition, you will have many options to choose from as you designate the selections and finishes for your new home.

What options will I be able to choose from when building my new home?

You will be able to select all of the finishes for your new home including cabinets, countertops, hardwood, carpet, and tile. You will also be able to choose the locations of all lighting, cable and telephone outlets, etc. Additionally, we can accommodate many other customizations to your home such as sound systems, built-ins, and upgraded landscaping. Please ask your sales manager for more information on available options.

How much will it cost to build my new home?

The costs for your new home are calculated as the sum of the: (1) base price of the floorplan you choose, plus (2) the costs of any additional options or upgrades you select, plus (3) the cost of the site work associated with the construction of your new home.

What is site work and why are its costs calculated differently than other aspects of my new home?

Site work includes items such as demolition of any existing structures, earthwork, storm water management systems, utility connections, landscaping, and other costs that can only be calculated on a lot-specific basis. Like every other piece of land, your property has unique attributes and conditions that will need to be specifically reviewed. Because no two pieces of property are identical, no two properties will have identical scopes of site work. We will need to examine your specific property to determine the site work costs that will be associated with the construction of your new home. On a typical infill lot, site work costs will generally be $60,000-$80,000 in Virginia and $80,000-$100,000 in Maryland.

How long does the process of building a new home take?

Typically, it will take 12 months from the time you sign the agreement until your home is completed. Approximately 4 months are needed to complete all design work and process the permits, followed by approximately 8 months of construction time.

When will I complete selections for my new home?

All selections must be complete prior to starting construction on your new home. Additionally, major selections that affect the building permit, such as moving walls, adding a bathroom, or adding a deck, must be finalized within 30 days after the agreement is signed so that these options can be included in our permit submissions.

How does payment for my new home work?

You will pay for you new home as construction progresses according to the following draw schedule:

Process Amount Paid
Deposit at time of contract $25,000
Building permit issued 10% (less $25,000 deposit)
Clearing, excavation, footings, and foundations complete 15%
Framing complete 20%
Rough-ins complete, close-in inspections passed 15%
Interior drywalled, trimmed, and primed 20%
Cabinets installed and flooring complete 15%
Certificate of occupancy issued 5%
Total 100%
